Site access
Your MSIC is a national card. An MSIC issued by ClientView is valid at Port Botany and at every other security regulated port and offshore facility in Australia.
NSW Ports and individual container terminal operators may require local inductions, vehicle registration or access passes in addition to your MSIC. Confirm current local requirements with the terminal operator or your employer before your first visit. NSW Ports states that you must hold a current MSIC for access to all of its maritime security zones, Port Botany included. Read NSW Ports' port user guidance.
Neither NSW Ports nor the Port Authority of NSW issues MSICs. The Port Authority of NSW records that the Sydney Ports Corporation MSIC Service Centre ceased as an authorised MSIC issuing body on 29 November 2013 and that it now supports its existing card holders and applicants through an external issuing body; that is the authority's own arrangement, not a restriction on where you apply. MSICs are issued by Australian Government authorised issuing bodies, and the card is national, so you can apply through any authorised issuing body and use the card at Port Botany. ClientView is an authorised issuing body: the application runs fully online, identity is verified at one of at least 324 Australia Post outlets that offer the MSIC identity check (Australia Post outlet locator, 27 August 2026), and ready applications are lodged with AusCheck each business day. After approval your MSIC is printed and sent by registered post to the address you nominate.

A Maritime Security Identification Card shows that you have met the background checking requirements for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at an Australian port, on a ship or at an offshore facility. It is issued under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Regulations 2003, made under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003.

A written confirmation, usually from your employer, that your job genuinely requires unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). Without it an application cannot proceed. On our Silver and Gold levels we help you get it sorted.
No. Any criminal history declaration required for an MSIC is made to AusCheck, not to ClientView. As your issuing body, ClientView does not collect or assess criminal history. AusCheck advises us of the outcome only.
Renew before the expiry date to keep continuous access, since an expired card means no unmonitored access from day one. If your card is lost, stolen or damaged, apply for a replacement straight away.
