The Port of Barrow Island serves the Gorgon project on Barrow Island, off the Pilbara coast in Western Australia. It is operated by Chevron Australia, its limits are defined by an arc of seven nautical miles drawn around a point on the island's eastern shore, and it is reached by air or sea rather than by road, with a largely fly in workforce.
Barrow Island is security regulated. Chevron Australia's own Barrow Island port page sets out the port's maritime security levels and states that the ISPS Code and the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003 set out three maritime security levels, which is the regime that applies to a security regulated port. An MSIC is required for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at a security regulated port at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)), so anyone whose role needs that access must hold one. Access to the island itself is administered by the operator, so confirm what your own role needs with Chevron Australia or your employer.
