Your MSIC is a national card. An MSIC issued by ClientView is valid at Port Melville and at every other security regulated port and offshore facility in Australia.
Tiwi Port & Marine's own page states that Port Melville, located at South Barlow Point 63 nautical miles north of Darwin, offers a security regulated port approved by the Commonwealth Government of Australia. Read Tiwi Port & Marine's Port Melville page.
The Port Melville Information Booklet of August 2017 is more specific, stating that Port Melville is a security-regulated port in accordance with the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act and Regulations (2003), and describing an approved Maritime Security Plan and Waterside Restricted Zones the Port Facility Security Officer activates when the plan requires it. The booklet sets out port procedures rather than card rules, so confirm current zone activation, induction and site access arrangements with the port operator or your employer before you travel.
Whichever route you take, the card itself comes from an Australian Government authorised MSIC issuing body rather than from the port. ClientView is one of them: the same card and the same AusCheck background check, one all inclusive price from $479.09 ex GST (ClientView published pricing, as at 18 August 2026), identity verified at a participating Australia Post outlet, and every ready application lodged with AusCheck each business day.
No Australia Post outlet offering the MSIC identity check is confirmed on Melville Island or anywhere else in the Tiwi Islands. The nearest confirmed outlets are the three in Darwin (Australia Post outlet locator, 28 August 2026), and Melville Island has no road link to the mainland, so that crossing is made by air or sea. The check can be completed at any participating outlet nationally, so most people do it wherever they happen to be rather than travelling for it. Current as at 2 September 2026.
Your MSIC and permission to enter are separate
Your MSIC shows you have met the background checking requirements. Your port or terminal operator controls site entry, inductions and access passes, so confirm them before you travel. AusCheck: apply for an MSIC

Yes, where your role needs unmonitored access. Tiwi Port & Marine states that Port Melville offers a security regulated port approved by the Commonwealth Government of Australia, and the Port Melville Information Booklet of August 2017 states that Port Melville is a security-regulated port in accordance with the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act and Regulations (2003), with an approved Maritime Security Plan and Waterside Restricted Zones activated when required. An MSIC is required for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at a security regulated port at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). Confirm what your own role needs with the port operator or your employer. [Source: Tiwi Port & Marine]

A Maritime Security Identification Card shows that you have met the background checking requirements for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at an Australian port, on a ship or at an offshore facility. It is issued under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Regulations 2003, made under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003.
One all inclusive price covers the government background check fee, identity and document verification, lodgement and postage. The current prices for 2 year and 4 year cards are in the pricing section on this page.
Apply at least six weeks before you need the card. ClientView publishes its measured processing times, with sample size, period and full methodology, at msic.com.au/msic-processing-times, refreshed monthly.
Proof of identity documents, evidence of your right to work in Australia, a 10 year address history, and an operational need confirming why you require unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). We tell you exactly what to bring before you go to verify.
A written confirmation, usually from your employer, that your job genuinely requires unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). Without it an application cannot proceed. On our Silver and Gold levels we help you get it sorted.
No. Any criminal history declaration required for an MSIC is made to AusCheck, not to ClientView. As your issuing body, ClientView does not collect or assess criminal history. AusCheck advises us of the outcome only.
Renew before the expiry date to keep continuous access, since an expired card means no unmonitored access from day one. If your card is lost, stolen or damaged, apply for a replacement straight away.
We lodge ready applications with AusCheck every business day, and a local team answers the phone.
