Your MSIC is a national card. An MSIC issued by ClientView is valid at Thursday Island (Port Kennedy) and at every other security regulated port and offshore facility in Australia.
Ports North's own Port Handbook for Thursday Island describes the port as also known as Port Kennedy, and states that it is a security regulated port under the Maritime Transport Security Act 2003 with an approved Maritime Security Plan. The handbook sets out ship reporting obligations rather than card rules, so confirm current induction and maritime security zone arrangements with Ports North or the facility operator before your first visit. Read Thursday Island's Port Handbook.
Ports North owns wharf facilities on both Thursday Island and Horn Island, and the port also serves as a transhipment point for supplying other islands of the Torres Strait. Local induction and site access arrangements are separate from MSIC issue.
Ports North no longer processes or issues MSICs and points applicants to authorised issuing bodies online. ClientView is one of them: the same card and the same AusCheck background check, one all inclusive price from $479.09 ex GST (ClientView published pricing, as at 18 August 2026), identity verified at a participating Australia Post outlet, and every ready application lodged with AusCheck each business day.
No Australia Post outlet offering the MSIC identity check is confirmed on Thursday Island, on Horn Island or anywhere else in the Torres Strait. The nearest confirmed outlets are on the mainland, in Weipa and in Cairns (Australia Post outlet locator, 28 August 2026). The check can be completed at any participating outlet nationally. Current as at 2 September 2026.
Your MSIC and permission to enter are separate
Your MSIC shows you have met the background checking requirements. Your port or terminal operator controls site entry, inductions and access passes, so confirm them before you travel. AusCheck: apply for an MSIC

Yes, where your role needs unmonitored access, and the two names are one port. Ports North's own Port Handbook describes the Port of Thursday Island as also known as Port Kennedy, and states that it is a security regulated port under the Maritime Transport Security Act 2003 with an approved Maritime Security Plan. An MSIC is required for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at a security regulated port at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). The handbook itself sets out ship reporting obligations rather than card rules, so confirm what your own role needs with Ports North or the facility operator. [Source: Ports North]

A Maritime Security Identification Card shows that you have met the background checking requirements for unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at an Australian port, on a ship or at an offshore facility. It is issued under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Regulations 2003, made under the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003.

Proof of identity documents, evidence of your right to work in Australia, a 10 year address history, and an operational need confirming why you require unmonitored access to a maritime security zone at least once each year (r. 6.07F(1)). We tell you exactly what to bring before you go to verify.

No. Any criminal history declaration required for an MSIC is made to AusCheck, not to ClientView. As your issuing body, ClientView does not collect or assess criminal history. AusCheck advises us of the outcome only.
Renew before the expiry date to keep continuous access, since an expired card means no unmonitored access from day one. If your card is lost, stolen or damaged, apply for a replacement straight away.
We lodge ready applications with AusCheck every business day, and a local team answers the phone.
